Men’s football returns home to meet Colgate

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Fresh off a two-game winning road trip that included their Patriot League opener, the Navy men’s soccer team looks to extend their winning streak to three games on Saturday, Sept. 24 when the Midshipmen host Colgate. in a 15-hour league contest at the Glenn Warner Football Facility.

The 35th all-time meeting between the Mids and Raiders will be the second of six consecutive league contests for the Navy, as the team plays Lafayette and against Boston University next week, followed by the Cup Army-Navy XI on October 7 and a visit to Lehigh on October 15.

Streak Watch for Holbrook and Jackson

Entering Saturday, the Navy’s second-year goaltender Pierce Holbrook has a 187:39 scoreless streak dating back to a 3-3 draw with George Washington on Sept. 9, as the freshman starter made five saves in Longwood’s shutout and Bucknell’s shutout last week … Holbrook is the first Mid to post consecutive shutouts since former teammate Tyler Fanning did so on October 2 and 9 last season.… For the junior midfielder david jackson, he’s leading a three-game goal streak in the Colgate encounter, as he scored the second of Navy’s three goals in the tie against George Washington on a free kick, then scored on penalties in the Navy victories at Longwood and Bucknell. … Jackson’s three-game goal streak makes him the first Mid to score in three consecutive games since Nicko West from Sept. 28-October 28. 6, 2019

Holbrook named PL Goalkeeper of the Week

Holbrook’s two performances last week earned him Patriot League Goalie of the Week accolade on Monday… The second made a total of 10 saves between consecutive shutouts, giving him his third clean sheet of the league. campaign after picking up a shutout in the team’s season opener as well… This marks the first time Holbrook has won weekly Patriot League honors… Holbrook also becomes the first contender to win goalie of the league’s goals of the week since Fahning won the weekly award on October 11, 2021 following his two shutouts… In addition to Holbrook, Jackson and the junior forward Baba Kallie earned Patriot League honorable mention honors for his play last week.

Last outing

Navy vs. Colgate

The Raiders enter Saturday with a narrow 15-14-5 advantage in an all-time streak dating back to 1991… The Mids were much better at home against Colgate than on the road, holding an 8-4-3 record on the Raiders when they play in Annapolis… Navy have won the last two meetings and three of the last four in the series… Kallie, Sydney-Paris and Jacob Williams each scored in last season’s Navy 3-0 win at Colgate on September 25, while Paris also registered an assist on Williams’ game-winning goal to give the former Mid a three-way performance points in Hamilton, NY… The spring 2021 season saw the two teams meet in Annapolis on February 28 for the PL opener, with Kallie scoring the tying goal at 44′ and then forcing an own Colgate goal at 79 ‘ to give Navy a 2-1 victory.

Scout the Raiders

Colgate is coming off a 2-0 loss at home to No. 3-ranked Syracuse on Tuesday night, with the Raiders standing 4-2-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in action in the Patriot League… A road to season opener win then-No. 16 Providence, followed by a tie with Marist and two more road wins at Binghamton and Fairfield, Colgate was unbeaten last week before dropping a 4-1 midweek game against Penn, but the Raiders responded last Saturday with a 3-0 win over Boston University to start league play…Max Edelstein paces the team with three goals, while Timmy Donovan and Aidan Davock both have two goals for the Raiders this season…A trio of Colgate players each have two assists, while Andrew Cooke (four starts, 14 saves) and Oliver Townsend (three starts, nine saves) have shared goalkeeping duties in the first seven games… Erik Ronning is in his 18th season as head coach of the Raiders, holding a 139-137-54 record at school.

Navy travels to Lafayette on Wednesday, September 28 for a 7 p.m. contest before heading home to face Boston University at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 1.

Fans are reminded that the general public does not have access to drive their vehicles at the US Naval Academy. Fans can park at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for a fee and take a shuttle bus that will run every 10 minutes beginning one hour before the game and will continue to run until one hour after the game ends. Fans 18 and older require government-issued photo ID. Enter Gate 5 of Taylor Ave. to park at the stadium. Dogs are not permitted inside the Glenn Warner Soccer Complex. All football games at Glenn Warner will be free.
