Let’s move on to transfer movements:

In the penalty area

The biggest transfer stories of the day. These are the things that are happening, or at least about to be done.

Manchester United have reached a full deal for Lisandro Martinez

Erik ten Hag gets his guy on as Martinez could help rebuild Manchester United’s defence. The agreed fee is €57m with a further €10m available through add-ons, Martinez will sign a five-year deal with an option for a sixth. A talented centre-back who can also function as a left-back or defensive midfielder, Martinez could push Harry Maguire to the bench as ten Hag looks to make improving the defense one of his top priorities.

He is United’s second defensive addition this summer, joining left-back Tyrell Malacia. Ten Hag wants to press and have a strong team on the ball which the addition of Martinez will help. While it will take departures at some point, the additions so far show a clear vision at Manchester United, which hasn’t been around for some time.

Personal teams progress as Arsenal look to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko

The deal is close as Arsenal and Manchester City have already agreed a £30million deal for the Ukraine international, according to CBS Sports football insider Fabrizio Romano. Pep Guardiola wants to add Marc Cucurella from Brighton, making Zinchenko available for a move in search of first-team football. While other Premier League sides were interested in the left-back, his familiarity with Mikel Arteta during his tenure as Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City appears to be a big factor. If Arsenal are able to agree a deal, it will be quite the addition of a versatile player who can line up at left-back or in midfield, helping Arteta craft his precision attack.

Penalty area entry

Those moves might not be imminent, but there are plenty of transfer shots in all the smoke these players and teams might be blowing.

Chelsea have a chance for Presnel Kimpembe but there is a valuation gap

Under new management Christophe Galtier, almost everyone at PSG is available for a price, but the gap between what they will accept for Kimpembe and what Chelsea plan to offer could prove to be a challenge. PSG currently want around €65m for the France international who came through their youth academy. While Kimpembe made 41 appearances last season across all competitions, he could struggle for time if PSG manage to secure a deal for Milan Skrinar.

Chelsea have already secured Kalidou Koulibaly but they would like to add more depth to the squad, especially as Cesar Azpilicueta could move to Barcelona. Les Bleus plan to open with a proposal of around €50m for Kimpembe, according to Romano, so it will be up to them if they can bridge that gap and agree personal terms.

Construction game

These moves can be speculative, but they should be watched.

Paulo Dybala’s future boils down to Rome and Napoli

A curious saga this summer in Italy has been where Dybala will end up. After leaving Juventus, the Argentine was available on a free transfer and looked set to sign for Inter Milan but as talks broke down that offer stalled. As newly promoted Monza threw their hat into the ring, it was clear they had no realistic chance of convincing the talented striker to join them. But Jose Mourinho made Dybala his top priority while Napoli also tried to convince him to join. Napoli have offered Dybala the highest salary but so far he seems more convinced by Roma’s project, according to Gianluca DiMarzio. With the choice now seemingly down to both clubs, this long saga could end sooner rather than later.
