Skincare brand Revea is bringing its hyper-personalized MO to the palms of consumers’ hands.

The brand, which was founded in 2019 and closed a $6 million seed round earlier this year with investors including Alpha Edison, Ulta Beauty and Waldencast Ventures, has launched its mobile app, Revea Mobile Experience.

Using hyperspectral imaging software and a diagnostic questionnaire, the app determines a personalized skincare regimen for users, consisting of an AM serum, a PM serum and a moisturizer tailored to the needs of a person’s skin.

“We want to rewrite the rules of skincare,” said Revea co-founder and CEO Chaz Giles. “The reason this is so important to us is that the consumer has fundamentally changed, technology has fundamentally changed, but for the most part beauty and skincare has been kind of stuck in the older models of the past.”

The app guides users through a series of questions regarding their lifestyle, ethnicity and environment to get an idea of ​​how these factors may impact their skin health. After the quiz, users undergo facial analysis through their phone’s front-facing camera, which leverages AI and hyperspectral imaging to measure skin texture, inflammation, hydration and lipid profiles, health skin barrier and more.

“Quizzes are only as good as a person’s knowledge of their skin,” Giles said, noting that while front-end customization holds a level of value, pairing it with the company’s proprietary hyperspectral face-scanning technology mark is what really allows a solid understanding of a person’s skin.

“We use these different diagnostics to actually see under the skin. If you think of it as an image, we can take a selfie, or we can take an MRI; they are two images, but they tell us very different things,” he continued.

At the end of the scan, which measures over one million data points and 40 skin health parameters, users receive a report detailing which areas of their skin health are compromised, along with an overview of their product associations.

Depending on a person’s needs, their day and evening serums can be formulated with ingredients such as bakuchiol to restore skin firmness, vitamin C to brighten, encapsulated salicylic acid for acne-prone skin , squalane for hydration or a variety of other ingredients.

“We don’t have any inventory of our treatments — everything is made specifically to order for your individual biology,” Giles said.

A Revea membership costs $250 per quarter, with each payment including a three-month supply of product, as well as access to its skin profile, which can be continuously updated as new skin conditions arise. life and skin develop.

The brand hasn’t commented on sales, but WWD previously reported that industry sources predicted the brand could reach between $3 million and $7 million in revenue in 2022.

“We have definitions of skin that were created by understanding four skin types, but we have 8 billion people in the world, right? How do you classify 8 billion people according to four types of skin?” says Gilles.

“We want to create the next generation of skincare that works for every individual, and skin starts with our individual biology.”
