Kristin Cavallari shares her favorite beauty and home products

If you had a TV and came of age early on, Kristin Cavallari probably graced your screen at some point. As a teenager, she rose to fame on the reality show “Laguna Beach” and later joined its spin-off series “The Hills.” Then in 2018, the veteran reality star had her own “Very Cavallari” show with now ex-husband to former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler.

But the 35-year-old has come a long way since her reality TV days. She built an empire with several New York Times bestselling books. She also founded the jewelry brand Uncommon James and, more recently, the skincare company Uncommon Beauty, both focused on improving everyday basics.

Although, like many of us these days, Cavallari is strolling down memory lane of the year 2000. This summer, she launched a new “Back to the Beach” podcast with the former co-star and ex. -boyfriend, Stephen Colletti, and reviewed all the drama, characters, and most importantly, modes.

“It’s an interesting time for me because I have this ‘Back to the Beach’ podcast right now and I just came back and watched the early seasons of Laguna Beach,” Cavallari told Shop TODAY. “And it’s so funny to me that while I’m going through all of this and reliving these experiences, this era of fashion has also come.”

But, despite recent early 2000s trends popping up on TikTok and New York Fashion Week, Cavallari told us that everything she wore during that era was a little “cringe-worthy.” However, that doesn’t necessarily mean she has regrets.

“It was just about time and I was also in high school, so I don’t look at this and think, ‘oh my God, what was I thinking?’ I was a kid but it was a lot of flare jeans, super low cut – that now you can’t pay me to wear these jeans that are so low I’m all about jeans that go over the top navel – and the denim skirts and the Ugg boots. This whole vibe is pretty hilarious to me.

After working with different stylists and trying to figure out what her style was (which involved “trial and error,” she said), she learned that ultimately she was drawn to simplicity.

“For me, it’s all about good bases and killer accessories and that’s really all you need,” she said. “And that’s kind of the reason why I wanted to start Uncommon James as well. I think less is more, really. And that’s actually for my whole life, even in how I decorate my house. My overall aesthetic for my life is minimalist, I would say, but still elevated and chic.”

As part of our Shopping Diaries series, we asked Cavallari to share some of her favorite products, from a simple yet stylish chain necklace to the mascara she uses to complete her “everyday” look.

Kristin Cavallari’s must-haves

Pineapple Peptide Nectar of Uncommon Beauty

“My beauty routine isn’t as complicated as people might think,” Cavallari said. “I have my go-tos and I don’t stray far from them. It takes a lot of effort to try a new face product because what I’m doing works and I’m prone to breakouts, so I’ve always been a little nervous about trying a new product.”

One of her staples from her own Uncommon Beauty brand is this Pineapple Peptide Nectar Serum. “It’s basically two in one,” she said. “It’s peptides and vitamin C. So it’s really all you want from a serum, it’s brightening, it’s hydrating, it’s anti-aging. If you could only get one product, that would be my choice – I wear it every day and love it.”

Rare James Love Life Necklace

This best-selling chain necklace, which is a Cavallari favorite at Uncommon James, bears the message ‘j’aime la vie’, which translates to ‘I love life’ in French. “I’m in a place where I feel really peaceful, really content and really happy, and so [this] necklace made sense,” she said. “For me, it reflects where I am currently in my life. Over the past two years, I have come to want to experience travel. All my life, pretty much, I’ve always wanted to get from point A to point B, and I didn’t realize that the beauty in life was really in between. And so it’s really about being there for me personally, and experiencing all that life has to offer.”

Molly’s Suds Original Laundry Detergent

“I want to clean up everything in my house and minimize the toxins in there,” Cavallari said. “And [Molly’s Suds] is my favorite laundry detergent…it’s clean, it does the job and I’ve been using it for a long time.”

Smart Change The Five Minute Diary

“I used [the journal] for a few years now,” Cavallari said. “And I don’t do it every day — I go through phases. I love it because it sets the tone for the day. And it’s a good reminder to focus on gratitude. I actually have these little three-minute journals that I have for my kids, and they like to do that too. I’m sure sometimes it’s probably a little over their head. But I feel like as long as I’m laying that foundation, hopefully they can keep coming back to it for the rest of their lives.”

Since using it, she says she has noticed a difference in her life. “I think even those little things that we can do by just changing your perspective and just focusing on gratitude, I think makes a huge difference in your overall well-being,” she said. .

Caraway Baking Sheet

It’s no secret that Cavallari is a great cook (she’s the author of two best-selling cookbooks), but she said that’s something her kids have started to appreciate, too. “They love to cook more than anything, but they love being in the kitchen with me,” she said. “Actually, Jaxon, of the three, he’s my second child and he’s the one who appreciates him the most. And so it’s easy for me to bring him into the kitchen, which is good. I love it when they’re here with me.”

These caraway leaves are her favorite, non-toxic and non-stick, according to the brand.

“I roast vegetables on these baking sheets almost every day,” Cavallari said. “And what I love about these is that they’re not toxic, but they’re also so easy to clean, and they look pretty, honestly. I think they’re a great gift for kids. people who like to cook.”

Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara

Cavallari said her typical “day-to-day” makeup is just filling in her brows and swiping on some mascara. And it is towards him that she turns. It is designed to be buildable and flake-free. It also contains ingredients like arginine and organic beeswax and carnauba wax, which help condition and nourish lashes, according to the brand.

Ilia Super Tinted Serum SPF 40

“If I go to the office, I will put more [makeup] “, she said. And for her base, she said she loves this skin tone from Ilia. Not only does it feature SPF, but it’s designed to provide lightweight coverage while smoothing and lifting. moisturizing the skin, thanks to ingredients like squalane, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide.

Roen Eyeshadow Palette

Roen is another clean makeup brand she’s a fan of that has creamy palettes. She said she follows the skin tone with bronzer and eye shadow. “I love cream eyeshadow because it’s so easy to put on — I just use my finger,” Cavallari said. According to the brand, this one has been tested by both artists and real women and is virtually foolproof, “even for those who are afraid of eyeshadow.”
